MIND-BLOWING Linked Notes Secrets Revealed for Research Projects

Doing research at school, work or university? Let Linked Note in OneNote help you.
Linked notes in OneNote are a powerful feature that allows users to connect their notes to specific content within other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, or even web pages in Internet Explorer. When taking linked notes, OneNote can be docked to the side of the screen, enabling users to view their research material on one side while taking notes on the other. This dual-view setup enhances productivity and organization, as it simplifies the process of note-taking by automatically linking the notes to the source content.

During a linked note session, OneNote captures a thumbnail, a text excerpt, and a link to the source document or web page, which can be incredibly useful for referencing and returning to the original material. This feature is particularly beneficial for research-intensive tasks, where maintaining a clear and accessible record of sources is crucial. To initiate linked notes, one would select the ‘Linked Notes’ option in the ‘Review’ tab within OneNote or the corresponding application from which they wish to link content.

Once the session is started, notes taken in OneNote will have an icon indicating the link to the source, and hovering over the notes will display details of the linked file. Clicking on the thumbnail image within the note will open the associated file, providing a seamless transition between notes and source material. To conclude a linked note session, users can simply click the chain link icon in the upper-right corner of the docked OneNote window and choose to stop taking linked notes.

This feature not only streamlines the research process but also ensures that all notes are organized and linked to their respective sources, making it easier to review and recall information later. It’s a testament to OneNote’s flexibility and integration within the Microsoft Office ecosystem, offering a cohesive and efficient way to manage information across different applications and platforms.
