In Microsoft Access, validation rules are used to control the data that can be entered into a field or table. These rules are expressions or criteria that must be met whenever users make modifications or additions to records. To set a validation rule for a field, you can go to the table design view and select the field you want to validate. In the field properties section, you will find the ‘Validation Rule’ property where you can enter an expression that defines what is considered valid data for that field. For example, to ensure a date field cannot have past dates, you could use the rule `=Date()`. Similarly, for a table, you can set a validation rule that applies to the entire record by going to the table design view, and in the properties sheet, you will find the ‘Validation Rule’ property for the table. Here, you can enter an expression that must hold true for the entire record, such as `[EndDate]= [StartDate]` to ensure that the end date is not before the start date. It’s important to also provide ‘Validation Text’ which will display a message when data entered does not comply with the validation rule, guiding users to correct their input. #msaccess #microsoftaccesstutorial
