Mastering Free Slack and Total Slack in MS Project

https://youtu.be/2ry5isw1Hds
Free slack and total slack are two concepts that are used in project management to measure the amount of time that a task can be delayed without affecting the project schedule. Free slack is the amount of time that a task can be delayed without delaying the start of any successor tasks. Total slack is the amount of time that a task can be delayed without delaying the project completion date.

Free slack and total slack are calculated by subtracting the early finish date of a task from its late finish date. The early finish date is the earliest possible date that a task can be completed, based on its predecessors and duration. The late finish date is the latest possible date that a task can be completed, based on its successors and project deadline.

Free slack and total slack are important indicators of the flexibility and risk of a project schedule. Tasks with high free slack or total slack have more room for adjustment and can accommodate changes or delays more easily. Tasks with low or negative free slack or total slack have less room for adjustment and can cause delays or problems for other tasks or the project as a whole. Therefore, project managers should monitor and manage the free slack and total slack of their tasks to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.
